A Brief History
The Northern Colorado Owlz are an independent baseball team of the Pioneer League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB) but is an MLB Partner League. In conjunction with the contraction of Minor League Baseball in 2021, the Pioneer League was converted from an MLB-affiliated Rookie Advanced league to an independent baseball league and granted status as an MLB Partner League. With this change, the Orem Owlz (Orem, Utah) relocated to Windsor.
On July 1st, 2025 the team had to resign from the Pioneer Baseball League. This was due to the continued turmoil surrounding their home field, Future Legends sports complex. The town of Windsor closed the facility down in April after allowing the complex's temporary certificates of occupancy to expire. The town claims that the closure was necessitated from complex managing member and co-founder Jeff Katofsky's inability to address health and safety issues. The team will rebrand as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and will play in blocktickets Park, where the Rocky Mountain Vibes also play.
